It is highly recommend that you do not use ultrasonic or any steam cleaning machines on any of our jewelry.  They can damage the stones or loosen the settings.

It is not recommended to wear your jewelry when swimming, gardening, or during other strenuous physical activities.  The stones may get scratched or damaged because of a chemical reaction with the elements.  Most gemstones do not like perspiration or chlorine.  If an activity can not be avoided without removing your jewelry then clean the jewelry as soon as possible after the event as outlined in this section.

Sterling Silver Care:

All sterling silver tarnishes over time so sterling silver should be cleaned with a jewelry polishing cloth.  It is recommended that you keep sterling silver jewelry sealed in plastic bags this helps to inhibit the tarnishing process but does not prevent it.  There are also anti-tarnish paper and bags that are safe and can be used that will further delay the tarnishing process.  All of our jewelry is shipped in a plastic bag along with a small square of anti-tarnish paper.  Keep and use these with your sterling silver jewelry.  This little strip and a plastic bag will reduce the effect of oxidation (tarnish) on your jewelry.  Eventually the anti-tarnish strip will become ineffective and should be replaced.

Do not use any tarnish removing chemicals.  These chemicals contain acids.  They will damage the metal and the stone.

Home made tarnish remover:  1 aluminum pan, baking soda, hot water.  Place silver piece in aluminum pan, it is important that the silver piece be touching the aluminum pan, add about 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda, add very hot water (distilled preferred) enough to cover silver piece.  Let sit until solution cools.  This may be need to be repeated a few times depending on the severity of the tarnish but the tarnish will start to disappear.  Rinse with cool water and dry with soft cloth.  Place in plastic bag once dry.  This method is safe for most stones.

Cleaning General Rule:

Only use a soft damp cloth or a soft toothbrush with warm soapy water to clean in your jewelry.  Chemical are not needed.  Let the stone air dry or towel dry it to prevent spots on metal.  Clean any sterling silver with a jewelry cloth after the piece has completely dried.  We sell Sunshine polishing cloths, see our Accessories page.
